The Manoeuvres
During the test, the examiner will ask you to carry out one of the following manoeuvres
Reversing around a corner, either left or right.
Turn in the road
Parallel or Bay parking
The General Driving
Throughout the test you should drive in the way I have taught you. Please don't listen to advice from friends and family, they aren’t driving instructors. The drive will normally include urban areas, country roads as well as higher speed limit roads like dual carriageways. The drive will include quite a few normal stops at the side of the road. If you make a mistake during your driving test, don't worry about it, you cannot change history. It may not be considered by the examiner to be serious or dangerous driving fault. The examiner is only looking for an overall good safe standard of driving. You can make up to 15 driving errors and still pass the test. If you commit any serious or dangerous faults you will fail the test.
The Emergency Stop
The exercise is carried out on approximately one out of every three tests and checks you are able to stop the vehicle promptly and safely during a simulated emergency.
Independent Driving
Since October 2010 the practical driving test now includes about a 10 minute section of independent driving, during which you will have follow directions and/or direction signs. The examiner may show you a route diagram, which is a very simple map on yellow paper to help you understand where you are going. You may ask the examiner to remind you or repeat the directions at any time. If you go off the route it won't affect your test result unless you commit a driving fault. It’s not a test of your navigation skills, if you find yourself in the incorrect lane at a junction or roundabout, just stay in that lane and follow its directions.
The End of the Driving Test
If you have driven well the examiner; he or she will tell you that the test has now finished and the result of the test. If you pass they will require your driving licence once again. Whatever happens make sure you listen carefully to any comments they may have about your drive.
